This may or may not influence what the Cowboys do or don’t do heading into Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline: Quarterback Dak Prescott’s hamstring injury is more serious than expected considered early, and is expected to miss several weeks, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. .

Examining the prospects of the Cowboys’ trade deadline, Yahoo Sports’ Jori Epstein wrote:

If the Cowboys are trading to help the 2024 roster with injuries to its top two players on offense and top three players on defense, the decision seems short. At 3-5, the Cowboys have a 4 percent chance of making the playoffs, according to The Athletic’s playoff calculator. Competing with the 7-2 Washington Commanders and 6-2 Philadelphia Eagles, the Cowboys’ chance of winning the NFC East is less than 1 percent. The franchise has reached the playoffs each of the past three years. A playoff spot alone, which Dallas seems unlikely to win, doesn’t support the development costs.
